The series starred Rula Lenska, Charlotte Cornwell and Julie Covington as the Little Ladies, with support from Emlyn Price, Beth Porter, Sue Jones-Davies, Stephen Moore and Little Nell among others. The series was made with a very low budget for Thames Television, with a style inspired by fringe theatre. The series was a success, winning three BAFTA Awards and the soundtrack album reaching No.1 in the UK Charts.

The Show Business
A new version of the old hit 'Broadway Annie' is in pre- production and three actresses, Devonia 'Dee' Rhoades, Anna Wynd and Nancy 'Q' Cunard de Longchamps are all vying for the lead role. Dee used to sing with rock group Economical Pancake, Anna is a classically trained actress, while 'Q' is currently working as a porn star. Anna eventually wins the role while Dee and Q are cast as her sidekicks. Things get off to a bad start, not least among the girls, and the show flops when the producer flees to Caracus with what little takings there are. Drowning their sorrows in the pub, along with Derek 'Hyper' Huggins, the shows musical director, the three women ponder what their futures hold for them. As Derek plays 'Blueberry Hill' on the piano, Dee sings along and encourages Anna and Q to join in. Derek reveals that it has been a dream of his to produce the worlds best ever girl group but none of the women are sure that they even like each other! Derek plays a song that he wrote: 'Stairway'
