After starting his career as an assistant director, Perumal debuted in the dark comedy film Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom (2012), portraying himself in a story inspired by a real life event. The film received critical acclaim and Perumal garnered positive reviews for his performance. He has gone on to star in several films, mainly in supporting character roles.
